4 gateway ports for the Mediterranean Aera and Europe

The Region is promoting the coherent, complementary and sustainable development of three regional ports : Sète, Port-la-Nouvelle and L’Ardoise, as well as the departement port of Port-Vendres.

It is currently restructuring, modernising and improving the effectiveness of these port areas at the same time as engaging in a proactive marketing approach and high-quality operations, with an overall investment of over €200 million until 2025.

Port of Sète

Sète is Southern Europe’s logistics port by virtue of its strategic location at the western end of the Mediterranean.

This deep-water port is multimodal in nature, with direct connection to the national rail network, the A75 and A9 motorways close by (with a dual carriageway between the motorway exit and the port) and direct access to the Rhône-Sète canal.

Port-la-Nouvelle

Located halfway between Marseille and Barcelona, the port offers natural maritime access to the Midi-Pyrénées region and the Toulouse area. Port-la-Nouvelle is the leading Mediterranean port for cereals and the third-largest French port for petroleum product freight.

Port-Vendres

The commercial port of Port-Vendres specialises particularly in fruits and vegetables, with
the Saint-Charles International platform and sea freight routes to North Africa, particularly
Morocco and the new Tanger Med hub port.

L’Ardoise

The Region’s ambition is to make L’Ardoise one of France’s leading trimodal river-railroad platforms. L’Ardoise river port is located on the Rhône, with access to the Mediterranean via the Rhône-Sète canal in less than 12 hours, terminating at the port of Sète.
